Each vintage I like to express the Barossa in a contrary manner The Contrarian is my indulgent creative winemaking outlet and challenges traditional concepts around Barossan Shiraz It has a complex bouquet with roasted meat spice tar liquorice and juicy black cherry fruits The wine is plush and velvety with a rich midpalate texture It features stalky tannins that provide a solid backbone and a pleasing finishltbr gtltbr gtFrom a vineyard in Moculta and this year no whole bunch he says And yet it still bears a family resemblance Aromatic herbs like thyme and lavender lovely perfume iron black and blue fruit Medium bodied not bunchy but shows the family traits of firmness minerality and a little austerity though the fruit is there And excellent Dry powdery finish sprinkled with herbs Poise and sophistication and so good to drink If you were to buy only one of the Head Shiraz wines this would be my recommendation 95100 Gary Walsh wwwwinefrontcomau
